Bears 3 continued their winning ways on the road this week, with a fantastic win in Sunday’s game against Stoke Spitfires that brought the 2018 portion of the league to a positive close.
The first quarter was a close game, however the defensive intensity of Bears coming out on top while Aaron Grant was able to find the net and put the Bears in an early lead at the end of the quarter. Spitfires: 7 – 12 Bears 3.
The second quarter saw the Bears’ defence tighten its hold on the Spitfires and at the same time build on their lead to go into the half time break with the scores Spitfires: 13 – 22 Bears 3.
In the second half, Bears 3 coach Dan Smith made use of the team’s early lead to rotate his bench and give court time to the full squad. Even with alterations to the line up, Bears were able to hold onto the lead going into the last quarter with the scores Spitfires: 20 – 28 Bears 3.
In the final quarter the Bears reverted to the strong defence that worked so well early in the game and Bears were able see out the game with a comfortable win : Spitfires: 26 – 47 Bears 3.
After the game Coach Dan Smith said “First I would like to thank Stoke and their staff for a great game today. A great finish to 2018 and great stepping stone to next year. I was really pleased with the performance of our junior players Aaron and Elan. A special mention has to go to Michelle Quested also, who had a great game after coming off the bench. We are committed to developing all of our athletes, and its amazing to see them make such strides.”
