Norwich Lowriders V Bears 2
29/9/2018
Second Division South
Norwich Lowriders: 45
Bears 3: 62
Bears 2 started their season off with a win after a long journey to Norwich to play against a rejuvenated Lowriders team. The Bears were featuring for the first time, their new recruits, player coach Daz Peasley and Theo Pilkington , both of whom joined from Shropshire Warriors at the end of last season.
The game started very scrappy with both teams making unforced errors and no team taking charge of the opening quarter, but with Daz Peasley experience on show, the Bears were able to grind out an early lead at the end of the quarter, Lowriders 6 – 12 Bears 2.
Lowriders regrouped after the break and came out determined to shut down the influential Peasley and Bears attack. The Bears were again sloppy in possession and found it hard to mount any advantage, but still went into the half time break adding to their lead Lowriders 14- 22 Bears 2.
Bears 2 soon found themselves in foul trouble in the second half, quickly getting into team foul trouble and putting the Lowriders on the free throw line, but they were unable to make their free shots to make the Bears pay more dearly. With the Lowriders again trying to shut down the influential Peasley, Derek Hall found his shooting range and helped the Bears to again add to their lead and go into the last quarter with the scores Lowriders 30 – 41 Bears 2.
The Last quarter saw Coach Peasley take himself off replacing himself with Rick Powell, returning after injury, who slotted in straight away and helped the Bears keep control of the game. With Derek Hall still finding the basket, the bears were able to finish the game off with the scores Lowriders 45 – 62 Bears 2
After the game Bears 3 coach Daz Peasley said “Really great to finally get my start for the Bears. The team did brilliant for the first game and there is a great basis to start with for the season”
