Junior League Round 1
Lord Taverners Junior League Pool C
Bears Cubs: 31
Swansea Fletchlings: 32
The Bear Cubs they travelled to the C.W.B.A home court in Coventry to kick of their season by taking on the host team and Swansea Fletchlings in the opening rounds of the Lord Taverners Junior League.
In their first game of the day the Cubs narrowly missed out on chalking their first win in a single point loss to the Swansea Fletchlings. In a very tight nail-biting game, in which the Cubs fought hard for the lead against the Fletchlings, the young Bears side came up short in the closing seconds. The last shot of the game rimmed out from the Cubs, allowing the Fletchlings to take the win.

In swift succession the Bears were up against the reigning champions C.W.B.A juniors. In a one-sided game, the Cubs were overwhelmed by the older and more experienced C.W.B.A juniors. Displaying their signature plucky team spirit, the Cubs kept fighting until the final buzzer, whilst rotating their players to give the full squad some much needed court time. In what was for some their very first competitive game, the young athletes were unable to get close to the stronger C.W.B.A juniors, who eventually took the final victory.
After the last game, Cubs Coach Adrian Taber said “Although the results didn’t go our way today, we have a very young group of players who have come on so much in the last 12 months. I am proud of them all and look forward to seeing the team develop to their full potential”.
