The Bears second team embark on yet another challenging away fixture this weekend, in a match against the Woking Blackhawks. The Blackhawks, now playing in the second division South after having been regulated from the first division last season, still had enough experience and talent to overcome the newly promoted Bears 2 team.
The first quarter was a one-sided affair with the tough Blackhawks team placing the Bears in a stranglehold, limiting them to rare scoring opportunities whilst also taking advantage at the Bears basket. Blackhawks managed to run up a healthy lead to end the quarter Blackhawks 16 – 4 Bears 2.
The second quarter saw the Bears come up with a strengthened defense, to try and claw back some of the earlier lead that Blackhawks had gained but with both teams playing strong defense, the Bears were only able to slightly gain some headway back. The scores going into the break Blackhawks 21 – 12 Bears 2.
The third quarter once again saw Blackhawks maintain this level of rigor and dominate the Bears offense. Blackhawks pulled further away from the Bears and powered into the final quarter with a very comfortable lead of Blackhawks 32 – 12 Bears 2.
In the last quarter, the Bears came out fighting and with a renewed ambition to claw back the scores and play the way that seen them promoted the previous season. The Bears made headway into the Blackhawk’s unassailable lead, whilst limiting the opposition to only one basket in the quarter. With the clock against them, the Bears finished the game with the scores Blackhawks 34 – 27 Bears 2.
After the game coach Hall said “Would like to congratulate Blackhawks on their victory, which they thoroughly deserved. I think that we are finally waking up to the fact that this season is going to be really tough for this side and that we need to start our games with this in mind. We’ll go away and learn from today, and come back stronger in our next game.”
