

Bears WBC boost promotion hopes.
Bears WWBC travelled to Nottingham Wildcats Arena at the weekend for the second round of the BWB Women’s league. The Bears had a tough weekend ahead of them, playing two teams on Saturday and Sunday. With only seven registered players this was again going to be a tough challenge for a unexperienced squad of players.

Angels of the North 3 14
Bears WBC 19
The Bears took on Angels of the North 3 in what was a close game. Making a strong start winning the first quarter 8-2 the Bears sealed their success early on, but the Angels fought hard winning the second quarter and tying the third and fourth. With just points in it the Bears continued their strong start to the Women’s League 2016/17 season winning the match 19-14.

Eastern Blue Stars 19
In the second game of the day, Bears took on Eastern Blue Stars for the first time in the competition. The first quarter was a close affair with only one basket between the teams . The second quarter saw the Bears take charge of the game, winning the quarter 12 – 1 going into the half time leading 18 – 5. The last two quarters were close quarters, with the Bears holding onto the lead they had built to finish the game winners 28 – 19.

The Sunday started with the Bears meeting the Eastern Blue Stars again, who were looking for revenge from the defeat from the previous day. Having learnt from the previous game Eastern Blue Stars made this a much tighter game, but the Bears were able to come out winners by only one basket and keep their winning run going.

Stoke Spitfires 12
The final game of the weekend saw the Bears met a weakened Stoke Spitfires who were once again playing with only five available players due to injuries and absence. The Bears were always in control of the game against the plucky Spitfires, and used their squad effectively to run out comfortable winners and finish the weekend on a high.
At the end of the weekend Coach Robinson commented.
” It was a long weekend of physical basketball, the girls started slow but got better as the weekend went on with all players getting on the scoresheet for the weekend. Overall very happy to be on top of the table going in to the 3rd weekend with our eyes on promotion.”
