Bears v Tornados, Bears 2 v Tornados 2 and Bears 3 v Derby Wheelblazers
First Division South
Bears : 51
Tornados: 27
The Bears club got back to their winning ways, with all four of their teams winning their respective games over the weekend. The Bears team were looking to bounce back after their loss in their last game against Steelers and came out fighting in their home fixture against Tornados.
From the tip off the Bears were motivated to prove that their last performance was not the standard people should expect. With Ben Haigh and Dan Gill back to their shooting best, and a better organized and more mobile defence, the Bears took a strong lead to end the quarter Bears 14 – 4 Tornados.
The Tornados regrouped for the second quarter to try and pull back the early lead the Bears had built, but both teams cancelled each other out in the quarter scoring basket for basket. The Bears went into the half time break with a healthy lead of Bears 26 – 16 Tornados.
After the break the Bears started the half with the same line-up they started with, and again began to pull further away from Tornados with Ben Haigh and Jacob Robinson adding to the score, giving the Bears a healthy lead going into the last quarter Bears 43 – 23 Tornados.
The earlier lead gave coach Masterson the opportunity to give court time to his bench in the last quarter, and they didn’t disappoint with the Bears junior player Aaron Grant, scoring in his debut for the first team. With contributions as well from Dan Smith and Derek Hall, the Bears finished the game with the score Bears 51 – 27 Tornados.
After the game Coach Masterson said “It was good to get back to winning ways today, but although the scores don’t reflect it, the Tornados played hard today and gave us a real game. It was really pleasing to see Aaron Grant make his debut and score today. This weekend has been great for all our juniors who have played senior basketball and have done themselves proud.”
Second Division South
Bears 2 : 54
Tornados 2: 24
In an earlier game, Bears 2 were up against Tornados 2 team and with no wins yet, the Bears 2 team were determined to shake off the early losses and try to take their first win of the season. With junior player Aaron Grant starting, the game was a close scrappy affair with no team able to establish any dominance. The second half saw a complete change, with Bears players Paul Colbourne and Neil Bunting taking control of the boards and finding their scoring touch to build up an unassailable lead and take the victory Bears 54 – 24.
Third Division Central
Bears 3 : 43
Derby Wheelblazers: 38
Bears 3 started the days fixtures when they played a Derby team who they suffered defeat against earlier in the season. The Bears were on top form and with contributions from junior players Aaron Grant and Jack Sheehy, fought out to win their first victory of the season.

Development Friendly
Bears 4 :36
Gloucester Blazers: 18
The Bears set out with their development team this weekend to Gloucester to play a friendly against local team, Blazers. With a number of the team playing their first game, the Bears didn’t disappoint and took a convincing win in their first ever competitive game. With junior players Kieran Parker and Ellen Fraser scoring alongside other Bears debutantes, the Bears ran out as the clear winners, showing the strength of the Bears youth coaching policy.
Coach Jacob Robinson said after the game “Great performance from the team this weekend, good to get some of our younger players some good quality minutes and get them used to how we like to play at Bears. All the coaches are coming away with some very exciting thoughts for the future.”
