Bears mauled by CWBA
Warwickshire Bears 32
C.W.B.A 58
The Bears came down to earth with a bump when playing their fixture on Sunday against one of the Division 1 South favorites C.W.B.A. With a host of GB internationals in their lineup, C.W.B.A were always going to be a test for the newly promoted Bears team. The C.W.B.A team featured Paralympians Charlotte Moore and Joy Haizelden, back from their success with the GB women’s wheelchair basketball team at the recent Rio Paralympics, in their lineup.
The first quarter was a close game with the Bears fighting to stay within touch of C.W.B.A and proved to be a close affair with the Bears behind at the break 6 -10.
The second quarter saw the Bears coming out with determination to stay in the game with a much stronger defense, whilst having more joy at the oppositions basket. This enabled the team to pull back the score to a much tighter 22 – 23 to C.W.B.A. at the half time point.
The quarter after the half time break was again a close affair with both teams unable to pull away and the score changing in favor of both teams constantly. The scores at the end of the quarter giving C.W.B.A a slight edge of Bears 30 – 34.
C.W.B.A came out in the final quarter determined to prove their dominance and experience in the league. With a tight hold in defence, C.B.W.A limited Bears to rare sights at their baskets and took full advantage at the Bears end to rack up the points and pull away, to finish the game off comfortable winners Bears 32 – 58 C.W.B.A
After the game coach Masterson said “ I’d like to congratulate C.W.B.A on a fantastic win and especially their GB junior player Peter Cusack who was awesome today. We will go away and hopefully learn from today and learn that this is a new level for many of the team and we need to up our game so much more if we are to live with these teams.”
Third Division South & West
Warwickshire Bears 2: 47
C.W.B.A 3:26
The Bears 2 had to face the C.W.B.A 3 team after the earlier disappointment, and made some amends by keeping their winning start to the season going. With the team playing so well, Bears had the opportunity to play more of its squad players and give them more court time.
Coach Masterson said after the game “ Thanks to our second team, were able to get some joy from today and it was pleasing to see how some of them have come on. Hopefully they will soon be pushing for more court time in the senior team.”
