Bears bounce back
Warwickshire Bears 84
Coyotes 35
The Bears got their season back on track, after losing their last two fixtures, with an impressive win against the Coyotes. With the Coyotes made up of women GB squad players and coached by the GB women’s coach Miles Thompson, this could have been a potential challenge for the Bears, but they were determined to put the recent disappointments behind them and try to get back to the basketball that has got them promoted for two consecutive seasons.
From tip off the Bears were on top and with a relentless defence, they gave the Coyotes a limited chance at the basket as well as taking advantage with a free-flowing offence, racking up the score, to end the quarter Bears 21 – 8 Coyotes.
The second quarter was again a similar game to the first, with the Bears defence on top, they used it as a springboard to their attack and kept the scoreboard ticking over, pulling further away. The Coyotes kept changing their line up to try and break down the Bears, and whilst getting some joy at the Bears basket, the score saw a healthy lead to the Bears 43 – 22 Coyotes.
After the break the Bears defence once again took charge, limiting the Coyotes to only one basket throughout the quarter but still keeping the scores ticking over to go further in front and virtually win the game, leaving the third quarter with the scores at Bears 61 – 24 Coyotes.
With the game practically won, both teams used the last quarter to give opportunities to their bench to gain experience, but the Bears always in command of the game. The game was seen out with the Bears racking up an impressive score Bears 84 – 35 Coyotes.
After the game, Coach Masterson said “ I was so pleased with the display today. Don’t be misled with the score today as the Coyotes are a good team with so much talent and potential, and being coached by one of the best coaches, it only goes to show how well we played. These girls are the next wave of GB players and the future looks really bright for our women’s international team.”
