Bears 2 took their winning streak to 4 from 4 games when they beat one of the league favorites, Plymouth Storm, in a closely fought game on Sunday at Henley-in-Arden. Bears 2 were up against the only team that had beaten them In both fixtures last season and knew they were in for a tough game from the tip off.
The first quarter was a close affair with both teams defense coming out on top and keeping the scores low for both teams, ending the quarter Bears 2 8 – 8 Storm.
The second quarter was again a tight affair with no team able to establish dominance, but the visitors going into half time with the slightest of leads Bears 2 18 – 19 Storm.
The second half began with Bears 2 determined to pull back into the lead and gain some momentum, but the equally determined Storm team seemed to have answers whenever the Bears took any kind of lead, with the Bears going back in front by one point into the final quarter Bears 2 32 – 31 Storm.
The final quarter saw Bears 2 finally take some control of the game with added pressure on the Storm attack and limiting them to sporadic opportunities, whilst taking advantage at the Storm basket. With only 1 minute on the clock Bears 2 were able to go 6 points in the lead and virtually seal the win with Storm only being able to marrow the score to a final score of Bears 2 44 – 40 Storm.
After the game coach Masterson said “ That was a good win against a very good Storm side. They pushed us all the way to the end and anyone could have won it. Think that will turn out to be a very good win for us this season.”
