Bears 2 Storm to victory
Third Division South & West
Plymouth Storm: 26
Warwickshire Bears 2: 49
The Bears 2 took their unbeaten record on the road in their first game of the New Year against their closest rivals in the league Plymouth Storm. From the tip off it was a tough battle, with Storm playing a physical game, trying to intimidate the Bears out of their game. This didn’t deter the Bears who were always in control of their play and they started to make in rods to the Storm basket whilst having the upper hand in defense limiting Storm to few shots at their own basket. At the end of the first quarter the scores were Plymouth Storm 4 – 10 Bears 2. The second quarter saw the Storm come out trying to force their way back into the game, pressing hard in defence trying to force turn overs, but the Bears were able to break it down and carry on pulling further away from Storm and gain more of a lead to go into half time with the scores Plymouth Storm 12 – 23 Bears 2.
Storm came out for the third quarter knowing that they needed to try pull back some of the score quickly and stop the Bears ascendancy at their basket and get some more positive attacks at Bears basket, but Bears defence was always on top and also dominated their own boards limiting Storms chances, whilst still adding to the scores. The third of the quarter ended with the scores Plymouth Storm 20 – 37 Bears 2. With the game virtually won, the fourth quarter was played with both teams giving their squad players a run out, but once again the Bears coming out on top and pulling even further away to finish the game with a comfortable score of Plymouth Storm 26 – 49 Bears 2.
Coach Masterson said after the game “So proud of the team today, to come to our nearest rivals and finish the game with that score is a reflection of how well they played and have improved since the last time we met. ”
