Division 2 South
Bears 2:
London Sparrows: 70
The Bears made a positive start, going into an early lead and trying to build a healthy score to help carry them through the game. With the impressive Mohammed Aurangzebe and coach Peasley finding their shooting form early, the Bears where able to go into the second quarter with a slight cushion already built up of Bears 2: 20 – 13 : Sparrows.
The Sparrows came out in the start of the second quarter determined to show that this was not going to be such an easy game and after the pep talk from their player Coach Amir Laksari, Sparrows began to chip away at the lead the Bears had opened and pulled to scores back with only one basket with the scores at the half time break. Bears 2: 30 – 28 : Sparrows
The third quarter was again a close game with the Bears able to only build on the slender lead but couldn’t seem to shake off the resilient Sparrows team who kept the game to a close affair going into the last quarter with the scores Bears 2: 46 – 36: Sparrows
The last quarter again was basket for basket, but with the cool head of coach Peasley being on the floor Bears looked in control to see out the game . Bears 2:58 – 47 : Sparrows.
After the game, Bears 2 coach Daz Peasley said “ Great game today and a lot closer than we expected but Sparrows are a good side despite the position they are in the league It was also great to get young Ellan Fraser on court and see her score her first basket for the 2nd team. She definitely is one to watch for the future.”.
Third Division Central
Bears 3: 50
Stoke Spitfires: 38
Earlier in the day Bears 3 played to an impressive win against a tough Stoke Spitfires team. With just placings to play for both teams this could easily have been a dull run out for both teams, but ended up with teams going for the win and the Bears being able to eventually come out on top.. With the impressive Aimee Lane consistently finding Stoke’s basket and junior prospect Ellan Fraser also adding to the score Bears were able to run out comfortable winners Bears 3 50 –38 Spitfires.
After the game Coach Dan Smith said ““A fantastic performance from Bears 3 today taking the win against a formidable Stoke side. Although with a minimal squad the team dug deep to bring home the victory. Next week the team play their last two games of the season, Saturday at 11a.m and Sunday at 11 a.m. We would love for anyone to come along and see a live game plus even have a go yourself. “
