Bad day away for Bears 2
2/4/16
Third Division Central
Cornwall Cougars 36
Warwickshire Bears 2 19
Warwickshire Bears 2 faced a tough weekend with an away weekend playing both southern teams in the same weekend with only seven players available for both games.
First up was Cornwall Cougars against Bears 2 in Newquay. The game started with Bears 2 going into an early lead but then the Cougars playing a full court pressing defence and forcing Bears 2 into continuous turnovers and scoring from the mistakes and pulling away from the Bears 2 . The Bears 2 regrouped at half time and came out breaking down Cougars press and trying to get the scores closer, but couldn’t stop Cougars also adding to their scores. The fourth quarter was an eventful start with Bears 2 player Liz Grinnell having to be stretchered off and taken to hospital to be checked out after a nasty fall. Once play started back the incident seemed to put a dampener on the rest of the game and a low scoring end to the game.
Coach Tom Masterson said after the game had finished: “Our thoughts are with Liz at the moment and hope she will be okay and it is just a precaution that she was taken to hospital. It was always going to be a tough weekend with the limited amount of players available this weekend and it showed with the result today.”
Quarter scores: 1,Cougars 6 Bears2 7; Cougars 16 Bears2 9 ; Cougars 28 Bears2 19; Cougars 36 Bears2 19.
