  4/6/16 Division 2  Semi Final: The Bears v Vikings WBC The opening quarter to the Bears and Vikings’ Division 2 Semi Final saw the two teams stay within four points of one another throughout the first 10 minutes of the game; the Warwickshire team heading into the second quarter ahead by 16-14. The Bears then continued to build upon the advantage to take a 32-25 advantage into half time. The third quarter saw the Vikings hit back by 13-12; nevertheless it was the Bears who entered the final 10 minutes of the game up by 44-38. The Vikings continued

          Bears first game in this years BWB National Play Offs will be a semi final game against the Vikings 2009 who finished second in the BWB 2nd Division North league.  Tip off at 4 p.m. Depending on the result, they will either play for the bronze medal on the Sunday 5th June  10 a.m. or the final at 12 p.m.   The event is being held at the Worcester Arena, Hylton Road, Worcester WR” 5JN.  

The Bears received a fantastic boost to their fundraising efforts with a donation from the  Morrisons Foundation.  The Bears are fundraising to purchase specialist wheelchairs for their junior members, and hopefully we will be able to enter a junior team into the Lord Taverners’ Junior League in the future.  Coach Tom Masterson received the cheque from local staff at the Morrisons store in Solihull. “This is a fantastic donation by Morrisons, which helps us on the way to setting up a junior team in the club.  It will also give local children the opportunity to play wheelchair basketball with specialist equipment as well” said

3/4/16 NL Third Division South & West Warwickshire Bears 2 19 Plymouth Storm 45 Sundays game against Plymouth was going to be a harder task with the Bears losing a player from the day before, being released from hospital with concussion and advised not to play, this saw the Bears with only six available players.  The Bears 2 stared the game well holding Plymouth and keeping in reach of their score but as the game progressed the more experienced and fresher Storm team took control of the game pulling away from the Bears 2 who were unlucky with a number

2/4/16 Third Division Central Cornwall Cougars 36 Warwickshire Bears 2 19 Warwickshire Bears 2 faced a tough weekend with an away weekend playing both southern teams  in the same weekend with only seven players available for both games. First up was Cornwall Cougars against Bears 2 in Newquay.  The game started with Bears 2 going into an early lead but then the Cougars playing a full court pressing defence and forcing Bears 2 into continuous turnovers and scoring from the mistakes and pulling away from the Bears 2 .  The Bears 2 regrouped at half time and came out breaking

BWB  3rd Division South & West Warwickshire  Bears2 51 Hampshire  Harriers 33 Bears 2 got back to winning ways against a tough Hampshire Harriers .  With a full complement of players, the Bears were in a far stronger position than last week’s loses.  The first quarter was a close affair with both teams trading basket for basket, but with the Bears ending the quarter only leading by a single point.  The second quarter again was a close game with nothing really separating the two teams again scoring  basket for basket.  The Bears went into half time with a slight lead 

10/4/16 BWB  2nd Division South Warwickshire  Bears 64 CWBA 35 The Bears took the spoils against local rivals CWBA  in the first game of the double header of games at Warwick College, Henley-in-Arden.   The first quarter was dominated by the Bears defence, who limited the fast paced CWBA to only two baskets in the first quarter whilst racking up 16 points.  After the break CWBA came out to put pressure on the Bears who were ready for the challenge and pulled further ahead to open a larger gap between the teams at the half way point.   BWB  3rd Division South & West Warwickshire  Bears 2 48 Gloucester Blazers 23 Bears 2 faced a tough battle against a Blazers side who were unbeaten and top placed in their division at the start of the game.  Taking a leaf from the Bears first game, the  Bears came out with a high intensity defence putting pressure on the Blazers  team forcing them into mistakes and only brief glimpses at the Bears basket.  With the upper hand in defence, the Bears made the Blazers errors pay by scoring freely at the Blazers  basket to go into the half time

24/4/16 BWB  2nd Division South Warwickshire  Bears 79 Norwich Lowriders 34 The Bears sealed promotion to division 1 and revenge against Norwich Lowriders in Sundays game.  With three games still to play after today’s game, the Bears beat the only team who had beaten them this season and who could catch them for one of the promotion places up for grabs.  From the tip off Bears were determined to not have a re run of the season’s first game and dominated the Lowriders in defence whilst making their baskets count to go into the half time break with a comfortable

15/5/16 Third Division Central Warwickshire Bears 2 45 Swindon Shock 2 29 Bears 2 added to an amazing day with a comprehensive win against Shock 2.  From the tip off the bears were always in control with a strong defence that limited Shock to shooting from way outside the Bears Key.  At the offensive end Bears dominated the Shock’s key with Rick Powell and Neil Bunting using their height advantage to great use.
