Aces V Bears 2
Division 2 South
Aces: 77
Bears 2: 40
The Bears 2 travelled to Aylesbury to play the return fixture from earlier in the year and it was a totally different team and outcome facing the Bears. The Aces had their newest recruit Jordan Luce, a current French International available to play in this fixture. The Bears were missing a number of their starting squad due to injuries and had to call upon Aimee Lane the women’s team captain and member of the Bears 3 team and also veteran player Adrian Taber also from the 3rd team to bolster the numbers in the Bears 2 team.
From winning the tip off the Aces were totally dominant in the game at both ends of the court. With their powerful forward Luce playing a one-man hustle defence, forcing Bears into numerous errors and turn-over possession, whilst making the Bears pay dearly for their mistakes. The Aces totally dominating the first quarter and finishing the first period Aces 24 – 4 Bears2.
The second quarter was a similar session for the Bears with them not being able to find the Aces basket but were able to put up a stiffer defence to limit the Aces to a lower score than they had racked up in the first quarter. The Aces going into the half time break with an unsurmountable lead of Aces 37 – 10 Bears2.
With the game virtually won already Bears came out in the second half looking to gain some pride and add points to the score. With Daz Peasley at last being able to find his range, and the Bears shoring up their defence, the Bears were able to add more to their score going into the last quarter. Aces 59 – 28 Bears2.
The last quarter was played out with the Aces putting a full court press onto the Bears to try and break the Bears even more, limiting again the opportunities the Bears had whilst again adding to their already convincing score. With both Luce and the impressive female forward Leanna Adams making the Bears pay for their errors. With the final buzzer sounding to a convincing victory for Aces, Aces 77– 40 Bears2.
After the game, Bears 2 coach Daz Peasley said “ Firstly I woud like to congratulate Aces on an impressive victory. We just couldn’t seem to pass or shoot today, but we will go away and work on those issues.”
